A room, three layers of light

A room, three layers of light

Bring ambient, accent and task lighting together without making your room feel busy.

Start with the way you live

Before choosing a fixture, walk through your room at the times you use it most. Where do you eat, read or relax? Note the available ceiling connections, wall points and sockets. A beautiful room does not need a light in every corner; each light should have a clear job.

Build a comfortable foundation

A pendant or ceiling light can provide the starting point. Consider the room dimensions and the light output listed for your selected model. A lampshade’s appearance alone does not tell you how much light reaches the room. Plan around the table or seating arrangement, not just the centre of the ceiling.

Add a quieter second layer

A wall light can bring attention to a textured surface or a transition between spaces. A floor lamp places light near a reading chair. Check the shade position from your normal seated height and keep the base clear of walking routes. For wall lights, confirm whether the chosen version is hardwired or plug-in.

Make the lights work together

Compare light-source and colour-temperature information before combining models. If separate controls or dimming matter to you, check each product’s specifications and discuss the installation with your electrician. Start with the function you are missing, then add another layer only where it helps.
